December In the Studio

Happy New Year to everyone! Thank you to all who have supported Old Coast Studio in 2020, we appreciate every single one of you! The last month has been an incredibly busy one for us, with many days spent in the workshop working on both custom made artworks, as well as one off pieces to hang in our gallery space.

One of our favourite pieces we finished in December was ‘Aquatic Scene’, a large scale sculpture installation that was commissioned by a couple in Bunbury. The brief was to make a piece that represented the experience of diving, as well as to represent the beautiful Southwest Coast. We were able to get our hands on a few pieces of the old Bunbury Jetty, which we used as a base and centrepiece for the sculpture. We then made a variety of fish that are commonly found here in the Southwest, such as King George Whiting, Snapper, Dhufish, Clams and Spotted Ray, which were all made of stainless steel and heated to colour the surface of the steel. We were incredibly proud of the result of this piece, and are happy to report that the new owners were also overjoyed with the result.

Another piece we have been working on for the month of December is a Highland Cow for a couple in Nannup. We have made a few different cows in the past, however we make sure each cow we make is different and unique. This piece is definitely the largest cow sculpture we have made, and will soon be installed on a concrete plinth that will overlook the beautiful Nannup landscape!

We were also lucky enough to take a trip to Rhottnest Island, where we installed one of Jakes Sculptures at the new Wadjemup Museum, which will be on exhibit until the end of 2021.

With the new year comes exciting new projects we will begin working on in the next few weeks. We can’t wait to show you whats coming!
